Karl, Nate, Ted, Marc, and Michael came over last night for the second Newbie Game Night. We played the latest Spiel des Jahres winner, Zooloretto, as well as the latest Alea release Notre Dame. The Spiel des Jahres is the prestigious Game of the Year award from Germany - mostly given out to family style games. Zooloretto is no exception, it's a lighter, family game than last time's Puerto Rico. Notre Dame is a bit heavier as strategy games go, but it's not too terribly complicated either. Both games can be played in under an hour, which is a pretty good indicator of how complex they are (the more complicated a game, the longer it takes to play).
Everyone seemed to like the games, Karl said he definitely wanted to play both Notre Dame and Puerto Rico again. Maybe next NGN I'll just have those 2 out again rather than introduce new games each time, to give people a chance to learn and get better at them.
So far NGN has been pretty successful! I'm looking forward to the next one.
